18Days Baliem Valley & Koroway Tribe Adventure

OUTLINE ITINERARY:

Day 01 : Jayapura Arrival – Wamena (D)

Arrival in Jayapura Airport and continue your flight by Trigana Air for wamena at 10:00.,  Transfer to Hotel. Dinner at Hotel. Rest of the day is free program.

Day 02 :  Wamena –Sogokmo – Kurima Anjelma – Kilise  (B,L,D)

Walk to city then  you have 35 minutes drive to sogokmo with accompanied also by your porters and cook, the starting point of the trekking to Kurima and  Anjelma  for abour 3-4hours. After lunch continue from Anjelma trek 3 hours to our destination village of Kilise, Along the trails, you will meet local people in their activities and yet the scenery is very beautiful around. In the afternoon you may explore the traditional villages and learn about the people way of life. Dinner and stay at local guest house of Kilise or local house

Day 03 :  Kilise – Userem (B,L,D)

After breakfast, you are proceed to descend the steep hill down to traditional hanging bridge across Baliem river. Today's walk is a little harder with narrow and slippery paths. But you may also enjoying the nature' s beauty. Trek will be around 3-4 hours.

Day  04 : Userem – Syokosimo  (B,L,D)

After this part, the path gets smaller and tricky until you find another river with no bridge to cross. The village to stay overnight called Syokosimo. Dinner and overnight in local guest house provided by the teacher of Syokosimo village. (Walk approx. 3-4 hours)

DAY 05 :  Syokosimo – Hitugi  (B,L,D)

The trekking today is the shortest one. After breakfast you are proceed to continue the trek up to a village called Hitugi. Climbing up the hill all the way to the village is something different, but the scenery is incredibly beautiful combined with small villages and local people working in the field You arrive to the village by noon where the cook is ready to serve lunch. Explore Hitugi village in the afternoon and interacted with the locals. Dinner and overnight stay at Hitugi village. (Walk approx.3-4 hours)

Day : 06 : Hitugi –Seima - Sogokmo – Wamena  (B,L,D)

After breakfast, walk for about 5-6 hours then cross another hanging bridge over Baliem River. Then from Baliem river 1 hour till the village of Sogokmo where the car ready to take you back to Wamena. Lunch served en route Dinner at local restaurant in town. O/N : Baliem Pilamo Hotel or similar. (Walk approx 6-7 hours)

Day 07:  Wamena – Dekai (B,L,D)

After breakfast at hotel, transfer on time to the airport for your flight to Dekai, Arrival at Dekai making preparation for the next trip to Senggo and tree house people. Afternoon walking around Dekai to learn about local people and surrounding. Lunch and dinner at small guest house.

Day 08: Dekai – Senggo (B,L,D)

Early morning start your adventure by motorized canoe to Senggo is sub district of Asmat area. Will take about 6-7hours. Lunch and dinner is prepared by your cook and overnight at tents.

Day 09:  Senggo – Yaniruma (B,L,D)

Continue by motorized canoe sailing up through Sirejt river to  reach Yaniruma as home base of Koroway tree house people. ay is the time to arrange everything before we start our adventure, porters and canoe. After lunch walk around the village and swim to the river. Dinner and stay at Mission house.

Day 10. Yaniruma – Koroway (B,L,D)

Breakfast, prepare all the stuff and walking to the Sokom river on board the local paddle canoe to cross the Backing Dairam river. Start our adventure by walking through the dense jungle, swampy, and we sometime walking up the single log. Our porter will free their hand to help you in the hard or difficult trail. After 4-5 hours walking we arrive the first Koroway camp (where some Koroway tribes life). The Koroway tribes live in the jungle only with their family or relatives, as they never stay in one big compound. We can found 2 or 3 Tree house in one camp only. Caused they are nomad peoples and they never life for such a long time in the one places, they have to moved to one and another places to get more food and animals to be hunt. We will stay with Koroway in their bevak or we build a tent or up the tree house if permitted.

Day 11. Koroway (B,L,D)

Breakfast, today we will join with Koroway tribe to their Sago field to gathering the Palm tree and process for their main food. Lunch will be provide by boxes in the jungle. Walking to the deeper jungle for hunt and make the trap of Wild pig and Cassuary bird. Late afternoon return to our camp for dinner and stay overnight.

Day 12. Koroway (B,L,D)

Breakfast, we moved to find another Koroway camp by walking to the deeper jungle. In this, we deal through our translator with Koroway tribe to show us how to built their tree house and to find the fish in the small river. Lunch will serve by boxes. Dinner and stay at Bevak or tent.

Day 13. Koroway – Yaniruma (B,L,D)

Breakfast, walking back to Yaniruma for about 5-6 hours, lunch will serve by boxes en route. Before we arrive in Yaniruma we will stop at the river for a fresh swim and clean up our body from the muddy. Afternoon arrive in Yaniruma, dinner and stay at Mission house.

Day 14. Yaniruma – Senggo (B,L,D)

Breakfast, by motorized canoe ride down the Backing Dairam river for about 8 – 10 hours to Senggo. Senggo is one of the big places in Southern region, this place is originally occupied by Citak Mitak tribe, but now there some peoples from outsider come to traders and also the government settlement. Along the way we will see some the tree houses and local peoples catching the fish by local canoe. Lunch will be provided by boxes. Afternoon arrive in Senggo, dinner and stay at simple losmen.

Day 15. Senggo – Dekai  (B,L,D)

By motorized canoe drive up to brazza river back to  Dekai. you will be arrive at afternoon. Lunch en route and dinner at small guest houses.

Day 16: Dekai – Wamena (B,L,D)

Walk to Deai Airfield to wait the plane to Wamena, sometime the flight delay cause the weather, usually at  10.00am. Arrive in Wamena, transfer to the hotel for lunch, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 17 : Wamena Jayapura ( B,L,D )

Breakfast at hotel, then transfer to Wamena airport for a flight departure to Jayapura on Trigana. Upon arrival at Sentani airport of Jayapura, transfer to Sentani Indah hotel then touring the area. You will view some of the WW II memorial sites, e.g. : Mc. Arthur Monument at Ifar Gunung, and 21 hour boat excursion in the lake of Sentani to see the local tribe life in the village. Lunch at Yougwa restaurant in the side of lake, afternoon continue touring and visit the museum Abepura and Hamadi market. Dinner and accommodation at Sentani Indah hotel and similar.

Day 18. Jayapura – Departure (B)
