Medium Trek
OUTLINE ITINERARY:
Day 01: ARRIVAL JAYAPURA - WAMENA NORTHERN
BALIEM VALLEY (L,D).
Upon arrival in Sentani Airport of Jayapura,
meet for your direct connect flight by
Trigana Air leaving for Wamena at 10.00 or 12.00.
Arrive at Wamena airport transfer to Baliem
Pilamo hotel for check in and a short briefing
by guide about the trip. Lunch is served at
hotel restaurant. After lunch explore Aikima and
Suroba of Baliem valley, Along the way you will
find the Dani people working in their sweet
potatoes fields and will see their daily
activities. Arrive at Suroba, walk through the
pine forest, enjoy the beautiful nature setting
and crossing a bridge over Aike river before you
arrive at the main road where the car is waiting
for you. We will hike in 1-2 hours through the
beautiful countryside and traditional houses of
Dani people. Afternoon drive back to Wamena.
Dinner and accommodation at Baliem Pilamo Hotel.
Day 02: WAMENA IBELE PILIA TAILAREK (B.L.D)
Breakfast at hotel, driving to Ibele about
13 km to the end of the bridge just past the
Elegaima which eastern edge of the Baliem
Valley . From here its an easy trek until Pilia
village in 2 hours along the Bene river. Lunch
will provide on the way. After lunch we proceed
another 2 hours to reach Tailarek for dinner
and overnight at School.
Day 03: TAILAREK YABOGEMA (B.L.D)
After breakfast, following ridge and hill
side contours above the Bene river. Lots of
little creeks cross the path, offering pure
drinking water. The views improve considerably
as the gorge narrows. Lunch box have provided.
Yabogema is the last village before the long
hike to Habema lake and its compound scattered
at the bottom. Dinner and overnight at
Traditional house.
Day 04: YABOGEMA HABEMA LAKE (B.L.D)
Having breakfast, started with a steep half
hour through yam garden to the upper most
compound of Yabogema which offered a great
panorama of steep forested slopes and garden.
Then an unpleasant hour of mud brought us to the
Dagum river for lunch. After lunch continue the
trekking and the path become much drier as we
entered the dense forest which reaches up to the
high swampy plateau on which Lake Habema sits.
Dinner and overnight stay at camp or water proof
tent.
Day 05: HABEMA LAKE ABITNO (B.L.D)
Lake Habema is under Trikora mountain at 4.743
meters above sea level in Irian Jaya second
highest mountain. Lake habema is wide and cold
reflecting the mountain and sky, a sponge of
mosses, tea brown streams and strange
vegetation. The air is thin and cold and at
night every star is visible. No one lives
permanently in this forest, as the altitude and
thick vegetation preclude sweet potato
cultivation. From here it possible we driving
back to Wamena by four wheels drive car. And if
you are one of the adventures we continue our
trek to Abitno in 4 hours for dinner and
overnight stay at shelter or tent.
Day 06: ABITNO BABILIO (B.L.D)
After breakfast, all our team proceed the tour
to Babililo village about 5 hours through the
forest and highland Pandanus. The forest was
unusual here, made of huge trees their trunks
draped in moss of several colors. As always in
rain forests the undergrowth was sparse, as
little sunlight reaches the jungle floor. Lunch
box have provided, dinner and stay overnight at
Local house or in the tent.
Day 07: BABILIO WALAIK (B.L.D)
Having breakfast, we looked down on a green
valley, far below which sloped upward to low
hills and the base of Trikora. Most of our
porters scrambled ahead, and we carefully picked
our way down narrow, steep walled canyon that
opened into the valley we saw from above. Our
porters were already setting up camp to prepare
our lunch, just across a small Uwe river. After
lunch we relaxed on a bit of dry ground we took
in the sight of the valley, covered with
extensive stands of the fern tree. Dinner and
overnight at School.
Day 08: WALAIK WALESI WAMENA (B.L.D)
Today is moderate trek because many native
people we can meet on the way until Walesi
village. Lunch will serve at the side of Uwes
river and we waiting our car to pick us up.
After lunch we driving to Wamena city and enjoy
spectacular view along the way to Wamena, dinner
and overnight at Baliem Pilamo hotel.
Day 09: WAMENA JAYAPURA DEPARTURE (B)
After breakfast, transfer in time to Airport for
leaving to Jayapura with first flight around
7.00 and you can catch next flight to next
destination like to Bali, Jakarta, or Makassar
